YGODEH Interview (London, England)

“YGODEH” was founded in October of 2009 by Pavel Stepanov aka “Piton” after scrapping his previous symphonic metal band “Disease”, which is reported to be the longest lived metal project in Daugavpils up to now and having a pivotal influence on the local rock-scene.

Dawn Of The Technological Singularity - 2011
He invited Victor “Feka” Rinkevich (ex-“SvinKTR”) to perform the vocal and lyrics writing duties, thus, forming the core of the band. Right from the start “YGODEH” proved a daring challenge to the stylistic versatility and compositional complexity mainly due to Pitons passion for experimentation and extensive use of additional symphonic elements. England-based drummer Vadim Vetrin aka “Vadozz”, who previously played together with Piton in “Disease” joined and recorded the percussion fills. The only problem the band encountered at the time was territorial which was resolved when Piton relocated to London, England to be with Vadozz and soon to be bassist Roman Maksimov aka “Stalker”, also from previous metal band “Disease”… and so the search began for a new vocalist to replace Feka who remains in Daugavpils.

The Experiment Interrupted - 2013
In February 2012, Ygodeh found just that in Andre .S Cura aka “Serberus” (BlackDespair), allowing them to perform for the first time as a live band on stage at Surface festival 2012. Receiving nothing but great responses from audiences they began recording their second album with Serberus. With his mechanical vocal delivery it made the second album a step into the experimental direction. It landed them as the most played band in the Russian Heavy Metal Guide February 2013.

Inside The Womb Of Horizonless Dystopia - 2014
Enter summer 2014 and the creation of their highly anticipated third album. An album which, upon release, immediately granted them a slot in one of London’s most infamous underground showcases. To put it simply, this album has raised the bar and changed the game for all upcoming and current metal bands cementing Ygodeh as a force to be reckoned with in the underground scene and only time will tell when they take this intelligent creation on European soil in the fall of 2014. You have been warned. This synthetic death metal for your brain is infectious and spreading very, very fast. Much like its name, Ygodeh’s sound is extremely enigmatic. Whilst incorporating different genres of metal it seamlessly flows unpredictably into something unique, mesmerising and unforgettable. A solid quartet with every second appreciating this new Synthetic Death Metal For Your Brain!

England Synthetic Progressive Death Metal, Well seems ready to continue to increase continuously musicians creative still want messing tweaking Death Metal in the form may not occur to us, yes, though still affected by this and that, at least this is Big Surprising from a project band that has the name Unique, YGODEH. a name that connotes as the culmination of mechanical and organic creations, combining strong touch Symphonic, Progressive, Avant Garde and the Technical Death Metal undisputed strength! Complexity metal arguably seems excessive if they want to appear to be funny, but this is serious music debut, how the band also presents a nuanced lyrical themes Dark, Philosophical and Scientific themes. perhaps if at the beginning you will feel at odds with the knock-knock-paced music Style Composition of a changing and unpredictable, perhaps over time your ears will get used to say this is Amazed Stuff! Yess, the Amazing Ideas give a Huge Taste in the album. I difficult if trying to describe where the fusion band wrote for this concept. which obviously debut full 3rd extraction remains a ripe when Ygodeh raising the level of skill to deliver a combination of attractive and Abstract. since forming in 2009, Ygodeh has released EP "Dawn of the Technological Singularity" (2010) and 2 full Album: The Experiment Interrupted (2013) and Inside the Womb of Horizonless Dystopia (2014) as an Independent. not too dissolve us in jest dizzying passing Mathematics knock to his maze of metal music, Ready no ready, Ygodeh will make fun entertainment while the head was too hungover to enjoy music onslaught of weight fast. Maybe My rating is not perfect, Obviously, like I said, this is an Exceptionally Dynamic, Epic, and synthetically I have no other words to describe the Excellency of the Material. Give it a listen, and see for yourself what this band contains and what they can do. Lineup feels enjoyed every inch of this album, our concentration will be left to drift and think what direction each composition. and and this is where perhaps the Gw says "Unique" is. Bar and Lick Riff as determine their own every Progres lucky Drum Improv Skill her guess able to follow each part, so do not be too regular tempo you hope will go smoothly, other than a circle labyrinth that would confront each way to the destination.

Hello! No waste of good suffering is wanted, give us a penetrating introduction to YGODEH and don't hesitate to stuff it hard! It seems the musicians of YGODEH play or used to play in various other outfits before... Is the band supposed to be a new and totally fresh entity, or rather the continuation of another one that existed before?
Serberus : That is correct! We are all in various other bands/projects and YGODEH is a separate entity in which we create our divine chaos.

The readers who aren't familiar with YGODEH, what should they know about the band before their reading keeps on going? A Short biography isn't necessary, but a few good and strong ideas could be interesting ...
Serberus : YGODEH is a culmination of mechanical and organic creations. Both in lyrics and music. It's fast and heavy but also has enough depth and integrity to keep you hooked.

Tell us more about the reasons of choosing the YGODEH moniker. What is especially interesting in the "concept" or behavior of this disease causing element for it shall Represent a Technical/Progressive Death Metal band?
Serberus : It is the enigma that surround the bans. Synthetic death metal is the closet label to describe it if you wanted to label it.
Piton : Well…usually we got sticker as tech-prog death metal band but in my mind it’s still more as melodic-symphonic-metal with  a bit tech-prog-electronic influences. I try write music without  a lot of difficulties, but it’s shouldn’t be boring. That’s why all songs and albums is different but with own personal structure which you can hear into all YGODEH albums.

What inspires you/the band now a days? What is your inspiration to create music, what is your drive?
Serberus : Inspiration would be life and the hardships involved just to sleep in a bed and eat food. Also, how we are all conditioned and unaware of what happening around us. Musically, inspiration comes from all genres of good musicianship
Piton : All of us working hard and the live is not easy. Sometimes you hate everything. Only music creation (and my wife J) can keep good part of my soul alive. When I’ll stop – Part of me will be dead. That’s my inspiration.

Do YGODEH born as a musical form New Presentation You've been wanting to play since on Band DISEASE?
Piton : Some elements (symphonic orchestra) came from my previous project “Disease (Latvia)”. However, YGODEH is a new concept which combines electronic and symphonic elements with old fashion guitar sound.

Damn ! an New CD " Clinic Of Maleficent " has Release. An album which stands out from their previous not only in its musicianship but as evidence that YGODEH is forming into something alot more powerful than the enigma that once surrounded it. Now tell us about the concept and story behind this masterpiece. The Cool story behind " Clinic Of Maleficent " Let's talk about it.
Serberus : Clinic was written in our darkest hours as a band which became a duo. Members left and when that happens your enthusiasm can go too. However with just the two heads processing the music we were able to really flesh out ideas and take away the useless bits with ease. The whole idea is about man's darkest hours when his relying on machines has cost him his very humanity and can no longer function without being connected to the computer main frame.

Your music is quite seriously Unique, Technical and Dynamic ... Don't tell me "it's just how we feel", it should be directed towards someone or something... So what's the reason for so much of Technical and obscure feelings?
Ygodeh : To be different and enjoy the music and creative process. When you label yourself your left in a pot only allowing you to create certain ideas but as we began as just an idea it nice as allows us to experiment.
Piton : To create this one album I moved my ass from London to small town in North Yorkshire, to be alone and spent two months for that. Pushed my brain to create something fresh All days, only music creation. Ok, some days I keep for beer J

I wonder how's the interest from the underground Metal media before release? Now you should begin to receive reviews... Are feedbacks nicely putrid and juicy? What were the weirdest things you read about " Clinic Of Maleficent " ?
Ygodeh : So far we haven’t any review, however the responses from online community has been great. And am sure better reviews will come.

What if you are a bit of comparing again with Before EP " Dawn of the Technological Singularity " and CD " The Experiment Interrupted "?
Ygodeh : Those two are very different as is this but I will say clinic resembles the eerie vibe of experiment.

What is the special thing with YGODEH Sophisticated Technical Stuff ? How much material overdubbing and harmonization do you do in the studio? Is layering a necessity for the YGODEH formula to work properly?
Piton : From the first album until now I’ve recorded, mixed and mastered all songs by myself at my home studio. I say studio, but it’s not a proper studio, it’s just my lap top, sound card, guitar and pedal. That’s it. Of course we want our music to sound more professional but at the moment we haven’t enough resources and opportunities to do it. But anyway we create our art as good as possible. All albums have got unique sound, however it’s not a prof-studio quality. Day by day, month by month my sound engineering skills are getting better and one day they will be the best. I hope so.

I'm Very Surprise with Cool Sound Production for this album, what Is this already a Trademark for YGODEH established itself from the beginning? and how YGODEH still able to maintain all of this until now? How with compare than before material?
Piton : Currently I am not sure what we will bring with future YGODEH’s album, but definitely it will be something different with ygodeh’s roots. My brain is getting older and more crazy, so maybe all next music material will be Nonunderstanding J

And in Arranging songs, whether YGODEH pressing to play more Endless Unique, Complicated than Complex?
Aal : All music we recorded is done ‘online’ if you may say so, we exchange our demos and drafts by sending them via internet. For instance Piton writes a demo and sends out to me then I go through it, looking if it needs some adjustments from my point of view - tempo changes here and there, arrangements like reharmonization or restructuring, may be adding a new part to a song, then sending him the updated version and now it's his turn to approve or adjust anything else. This process can continue for a few cycles until we both satisfied with the result. In fact we may not even meet each other in person while working on a song.

Where do you think or where do you want YGODEH to be 5 years from now?
Serberus : In five years I'd like the band to still be going. In this industry it very difficult to keep alive for a long time without the funding however we would love to still create music, play for ppl around the world and meet lots of women, haha.
Piton : I hope I will have aspiration for music creation. More fresh music, gigs, festivals, more challenges for me and my colleagues. And more Fans who really like our strange music presentation.

Overall, it's time to come to an end now. Hope you enjoyed this interview? Thanks for answering my questions and the time you spend on them. I hope I didn't forget anything? If there's something left to say at the end feel free to use this opportunity now. You can add what you wish, I let you conclude all last word this Interview !
Ygodeh : Last words would be to enjoy the music and support what we do. Thank you guys for interest and support any underground music bands.
