REBAELLIUN Interview (Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil)

The Return of the mighiest Brazilian Death Metal machine Rebaelliun!

Back in 1998 four guys in Brasil had a common dream, to record death metal and play Europe. So they recorded two tracks in Brasil and travelled to Belgium. With those two songs they secured many gigs and everyone was blown away by their live performances. So was Hammerheart Records one day when they were selling albums at an underground festival where Rebaelliun performed. Many labels showed interest, but the band decided to chose Hammerheart Records. Then Rebaelliun went home and recorded “Burn the Promised Land”, and launched their career. Their second album “Annihilation” was recorded in 2001 and upon its release was seen as one of ther most intense Death Metal albums ever released, and even in 2016 it is regarded as a classic. As with many bands Rebaelliun broke up after touring for “Annihilation”, due to internal struggles and disagreements. Then forward to 2015, the reunion is there, finally... And so the release of “The Hell’s Decrees” is upon us in may 2016! The album is Rebaelliun in 2016, still all the trademarks are there: brutality, technical skills, insane speed, killer solo’s, memorable songs. But on a higher level than ever before! Each song is a highlight, the diversity in the tracklist is contributing to listening the full album and be left in awe, simply jaw-dropping...

Interview Answered By Lohy Fabiano (Bass/Vocals)

Hello! So REBAELLIUN is back... How does it feel to play the songs again after almost 13 years of morbid sleep? What's up with the band lately?
Lohy Fabiano: Hello, Herry! Hell yeah, we are back! And it's really good, indeed. Playing the old stuff, writing the new album, starting a tour to promote it. It's really good. The Hell's Decrees will be out in May, and in a few days we gonna have our first show of the tour, on a big festival in the northeast of the country. They are really crazy metalheads around there and it will be killer! A fucking nice restart. Things are doing great for Rebaelliun lately.

Hammerheart Records Making Highlight Statement on this Press " The Return of the mighiest Brazilian Death Metal machine REBAELLIUN ! ", yeah, because it becomes highly anticipated reunion for Fans. whether the actual underlying REBAELLIUN desire to return? if during the period of Split up Band, All members REBAELLIUN just Focus on Several Bands, Family or Job?
Lohy Fabiano: Since the band broke up in 2002, we felt that Rebaelliun has left a lot to do, to show, and that was an early end. We talked a few times about a reunion, but it was not the right time. Since then, Fabiano played in some other bands in Brazil, and became a music producer. Sandro also played, and still plays in another Death Metal band. Ronaldo resumed his studies with guitar, that is an old passion. And I focused on personal projects since then. Last year, we return to talk about  a reunion again. We are more mature, experienced, and each of us is more structured now, then we came to the conclusion that this was the right time, and the return was sealed.

REBAELLIUN broke up after Release last Album for  " Annihilation ", due to internal struggles and disagreements. Then forward to 2015, the reunion is there, finally release of New  Horde " The Hell’s Decrees " is upon us in may 2016 with still all the trademarks, so What inspires you/the band now a days? What is your inspiration to create music, what is your drive?
Lohy Fabiano: I think that the inspiration comes from a real will to share with people our perception of extreme music. The way we see the world around us is a big inspiration, also. We live in a chaotic reality, and we think mankind was born to failure as a species. So, if you take a good look around, there's no bigger inspiration than reality itself.

Holy shit what an New Album … Pure madness with perfect, Unearthly production and inhuman violence like Bestial Assault. Now tell us about the concept and story behind this masterpiece. The Cool story behind " The Hell’s Decrees ". The story is cool and Imentioned several influences in my review. still about theme of Annihilation, Anti-Christianity, Death, and War ? Let's talk about " The Hell’s Decrees ".
Lohy Fabiano: The concept behind the new album is post apocalyptic. The world after Annihilation. a dead and sterile landscape, full of misery, and with total absence of hope. In this chaotic reality, the hell's decrees prevail. The themes that you mentioned are there but with a different approach, now. There's no more laws, no more organized society, so it's every man for himself. Musically, we wanted the continuity and evolution in comparison with Annihilation. So, it's more direct, but no less brutal, aggressive, and heavier than our previous albums.

So far how about Relationships are bound REBAELLIUN with Hammerheart Records, cause I Saw all releases Band handled as well by Hammerheart Records, is already a very Good Relations if REBAELLIUN will forever cooperate with them? or you want to give for another answer?
Lohy Fabiano: Even before we announced that we were back, there were a lot of people looking for the previous albums. So, when we talked about the new one, was natural to think about the re-release of the old material. It's good for everyone, because attends the ones who didn't get the albuns at that time, and the people that are learning our music now. All I can say is we are glad to work with Hammerheart again, and we expect a great collaboration for this new album as well.

Until now whether, are REBAELLIUN very satisfied with the results of the hardwork Hammerheart Records for the band?
Lohy Fabiano: Yes, we are pretty satisfied. We know that we have a lot of work to do with this return to recover the time we were out, and in what concerns for a label, we count on Hammerheart to help to promote The Hell's Decrees, as what was done with our first releases.

I wonder how's the interest from the underground Metal media before release? How did the reviews turn out? How many interviews have you answered and how's the response for " The Hell’s Decrees " from the media and the fans up to now? How long did you orgasm last when the new album was released?
Lohy Fabiano: The response has been great. Media and fans are curious, and the expectation is big. There were several years that Rebaelliun was hibernating, and now it is natural for people to be curious to know what we are bringing to this new album. As the album was made available in streaming to the press, they were made some reviews, and the response has been very good. We already answered some interviews from different countries, and we think there's more to come after the official release of the new album. Since Annihilation we did not have this kind of demand. So, it's very positive for the band.

An excellent album that should be heard. If you really consider yourself a metalhead, give this band a try. and how the process of making this new material? whether all members are involved in every writing music?
Lohy Fabiano: The writing process was different for this album. As we live in different cities, we have the technology and especially the internet at our side to make things happen. Fabiano composed the songs, and I wrote the lyrics this time. But everyone was involved in the process, brought their ideas, and arrangements were set together.

What is the special thing with REBAELLIUN? The Bomblast Drumming must be More Blaster? More Darkened Material? Or is it much more? How much material overdubbing and harmonization do you do in the studio? Is layering a necessity for the REBAELLIUN formula to work properly?
Lohy Fabiano: Rebaelliun is fury and aggression on stage, and should sound like that, recorded. We do not like plasticized and innocuous productions. All arrangements, and even how each instrument should sound, everything was done to be able to run live fully. We do not believe in formulas for our music. So, the only premise is that it sounds honest to us, and that sounds like Rebaelliun. If we were fans of formulas, we would have a limitation, and Rebaelliun has never been and will never be limited.

I'm Very Surprise with Amazing Sound Production for this album, what Is this already a Trademark for REBAELLIUN established itself from the beginning? and how REBAELLIUN still able to maintain all of this until now? Stay workin in Stage One Studio, Germany?
Lohy Fabiano: The only album recorded out of Brazil, was Annihilation. Andy Classen made a great production, and the album was recorded at Stage One Studio, in Germany. But this time was not necessary to leave Brazil to meet our expectations about how the new album should sound. Leaving the production in the hands of Fabiano was the best thing we could have done for The Hell's Decrees. He is an excellent metal producer, and knew how to get the best of us in the recordings. We are all very proud of the final result.

REBAELLIUN is dedicated to the Destruction and Recreation of the current Death Metal Paradigm, and a return the true spirit of the Evolution brought to light by the vision quests of its progenitors. Please tell something about the lyrics and what they deal with? so it will take a pleasure for the listener to be able to digest their meaning. and How With " The Hell’s Decrees " mean?
Lohy Fabiano: Every lyric was written in first person, so you can feel like being there, a lone wanderer roaming in a dead world. The Hell's Decrees is about what kind of "rules"(if there are some), you would deal as a survivor in an annihilated world. A violent and chaotic viewpoint of the fall of mankind. All the darkness, all the disgust, and all the hatred of mankind, you will find there. The words on this album work in synergy with the music. Every music has it's own soul so with the lyrics couldn't be different.

Is "Hell's Decree" (from the first album's track era "Burn the Promised Land") has a case related to "The Hell's Decrees" exactly?
Lohy Fabiano: Yes. If you listen closely, you will find a guitar riff from Hell's Decree from Burn The Promised Land, as some few parts in different songs that works as a homage for our debut album. Think about it as "easter eggs", so the point is to discover for yourself.

and in Arranging songs, whether REBAELLIUN pressing to play more Endless Faster than Faster?
Lohy Fabiano: We never felt pressured to write faster songs. Each element of our music works for the music itself, and not the opposite. We never thought in being faster, only to be faster. Since the beginning, that's the way we make music. You gonna find a lot of different tempos in this new album, and it's natural. Because, we feel that is a differential and works perfectly for Rebaelliun.

In my opinion, become very Fanatic since the album "Burn the Promised Land", remind I have never been separated at all when in the naming REBAELLIUN. You guys have a good formation since 1998, especially for Drummer Powerfully Sandro Moreira, His Amazing Drummer !!! how do you actually retain this concept? whether the ability and power begin speak?
Lohy Fabiano: We think that a strong line-up is important to keep the unit. If the whole band work as a team, and has the same goal, nothing can stop it. The only replacement was when Marcelo Marzari left the band after the Bringer of War Tour, when I joined the band. But the four of us already were playing in a band before Rebaelliun, called Blessed, so it was like we had never stopped playing together. Sandro is a great musician, one the best drummers that I've seen playing. Because, besides his technique that constantly evolves, he plays with guts, and spirit. It's a pleasure to have him with us.

Where do you think or where do you want REBAELLIUN to be 10 years from now?
Lohy Fabiano: We want to keep working hard and keep playing death metal. Evolving as musicians, as artists, as people. While our music is relevant to others as it is for us, we will be happy to continue sharing our work with them. We want to release better and better albums, reaching more people, and make more and more shows. That's what we want for the future.

Overall, it's time to come to an end now. Hope you enjoyed this interview? Thanks for answering my questions and the time you spend on them. I hope I didn't forget anything? If there's something left to say at the end feel free to use this opportunity now. You can add what you wish, I let you conclude all last word this Interview !
Lohy Fabiano: Thank you for the great interview, and thank you for your support. I want to invite all of you to listen our new album - It's on line, you can find it in Soundcloud, Youtube, etc. If you are Death Metal fan, we're pretty sure you gonna like this new album. We hear a lot about how the Indonesian metalheads are crazy, and the shows in Indonesia are insane. We want to see it with our own eyes, so we hope to play there as soon as we can. Stay brutal!!
