ATROCIOUS ABNORMALITY Interview (North Carolina, USA)

Hi there guys, thanks for showing interest in answering this interview. How are you? Anything important things to start with?
AA - Hello, we are very thankful for the interview, and we want to thank our fans for being very patient during our hiatus which is about to end. We are close to releasing a new album and new merch, and lots of other great things to announce soon as we make our return. Thank you

ATROCIOUS ABNORMALITY (AA) is recording for new materials for new album now. How is it going ? Any news on AA Camp that you can share for the readers here ?

AA - Yes, we are currently finishing up the recording of our new album "Formed in Disgust" that will be released very soon by Comatose Music. Everything is complete, but we are waiting for the guest vocals to be recorded which will happen within the next month. We will be announcing many new things on our Facebook page (facebook.com/AtrociousAbnormality) within the next week, including guest vocalists, track listing for the album and more.

This is very long waited album for AA so far, since the last album released on 2007. Any reason why it took very long time to release this new album ?
AA - I'm glad you ask, the main reason it took so long was mainly due to playing tons of shows for the first few years, then we start writing and some delays would come up, our bassist James plays with Lecherous Nocturne as well, and they were touring a lot, we also demolished our rehearsal room to build a bigger and better one, and this took quite a few months. Along with all of that, Steve is very busy running Comatose, and we also take our time writing songs, we don't rush the process, and sometimes we make changes and fine tune the songs to our liking, which adds time to getting this done. And the last delay was because Steve and Brent helped reform Lust of Decay for a tour in the summer of 2014, but as soon as that was wrapped up, it was time to finish our new album for Atrocious Abnormality. I hope everyone will think it was worth the wait.

How many songs will be in AA new album ? Is it going to be released by the COMATOSE again? Why do you choose them ? Does AA have any standard for good label records to work with ?
AA - There will 9 songs on the new album, and yes, it will be released by Comatose in 2015. And we mainly use Comatose because it is Steve's label. We have never tried to seek out any other. Comatose is one of the top underground extreme metal label and distro in the world, and he does a lot for the bands on the roster.

Now tell us about the concept and story behind this new album. Can you tell us the title of the new album and probably the lyrics that you wrote.
AA - The title of the album is "Formed in Disgust" and there really is no concept or story of the album, it is just a collection of brutal death metal. But this album is a step up from our last album, this album is more aggressive, and each song is a representation of our influences over the years in brutal death metal. Each song has it's own feel, and it's own purpose. The lyrics and song ideas are a bit more evolved on this album, less of the basic gore, and more of a mixture of many dark things like gore, death, incest, beliefs, and chaos.

Can you share and tell the new things that will come in the new album compared with the last album ? # So far, are you guys satisfied with the last album Echoes of The Rotting ? I wonder how's the interest from the underground Metal media so far? How did the reviews turn out? How many interviews have you answered and how's the response for that album from the media and the fans up to now?
AA - Compared to our first album, the new one is a huge step forward. The songs are more intense and aggressive, the production is much better this time as well. We have better equipment, and the raw mix already sounds way better than "Echoes of the Rotting". And yes, we are very satisfied with "Echoes...", it was the album we wanted to make at the time. We are still very proud of that release, and it has done well. It is almost sold out of the second pressing and shirts have been selling very well also. We got many good reviews on the album, and some reviews were not so good, but no one ever was negative that I know of. But those are just opinions anyways, and we think everyone is entitled to have one. We make music for us, first and foremost, and we just hope people like it as much as we do. As for interviews, we have not done very many, but we have done some. Media in the U.S. is only concerned with covering more popular bands. Here, death metal is not very popular. But the fans that do support it are some of the best. We hope to see some of them on the road very soon!

If you can say in two words, what is the special thing with AA ?
AA - Hard to say in two words what may be special with Atrocious Abnormality, but to us, it's special that we all have the same ideas musically, and when we don't, we work it out, and we try to have fun playing music we enjoy.

How do you all manage AA with your other life or activities? Like Brent that also play in LUST OF DECAY and the other members too.
AA - It just takes time and effort. Steve and Brent both are in Lust of Decay, James is also in Lecherous Nocturne, Steve also runs Comatose Music. So it is just simply a desire to do it.

A question I like to ask a lot on musicians that follow the underground, is the question on downloading. What would your reaction be if someone told you that he downloaded both your albums and thought they were awesome, and what to someone that told you he bought the albums and thought they were shit?
AA - Downloading is something that has become part of the game. It has good sides, and bad. Before the internet, people traded tapes, I know because I was one of the traders. That is how friends shared new metal bands, because the music was not available anywhere, and that is how bands got noticed. Metallica is famous because people shared their music for free, yet they complain about it now. To me, there is no point is being angry about it. Because, like you say, someone buys the album, and hates it. And we all have been told both things, and as I said before, people are entitled to their opinions, and we know our music isn't for everyone. But with that being said, there are only 2 types of music lovers. Ones that pay for it, and ones that refuse to, and that will always be the case. There will always be collectors, some want physical, some want digital. To each their own.

Overall, it's time to come to an end now. Hope you enjoyed this interview? Thanks for answering my questions and the time you spend on them. I hope I didn't forget anything? If there's something left to say at the end feel free to use this opportunity now. The last words are yours!
AA - Thank you for taking the time to interview us, and sharing the story with your readers. And for our last words, we would like to thank any of our fans who may read this, I know we have made you wait a long time for a new album. This Halloween will be 7 years exactly since the release of "Echoes of the Rotting", but we can confirm to you now that the new album is almost complete, only guest vocals and mixing and mastering are left, and it should be released in January at the latest. Keep an eye on our Facebook page to see upcoming news about the release of the new CD "Formed in Disgust", such as track listing, release date, guest appearances, and more. Thank you again!!
